Special Educational Needs

Welcome to the SEN Learning Support Base at Wrenn Academy.  Our support provision is based on both school sites and caters for the needs of students from Year 7 to Year 13.

In our team we aim to support students and their families to minimise the impact of any identified learning difference and help our students to fulfill their academic potential no matter where they start.

To help us achieve this aim we offer a range of different assessment, screening and testing measures and a wide range of different provisions to help students achieve their potential which can include:

  • Setting and reviewing of individual targets
  • EHC or Statement reviews
  • 1:1 sessions
  • Small group work
  • Literacy support
  • Numeracy support
  • Spoken language and social skills support
  • Personal development skills support
  • In class support
  • Key Worker Support

As a department we also work closely with the Pastoral Teams and other external agencies which can include:

  • The Educational Psychologist
  • Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMH)
  • School nurse
  • Specialist teacher of the deaf
  • Specialist teacher of EAL
  • TAMs

It is important for students, parents and staff to remember that we have an open door policy. Anyone who is concerned about a student or their progress, or, has concerns about a student with special needs in their class, or at home, is welcome to come to the Learning Support Base where we will do our best to provide information and advice on how best to support you or them. On the first Tuesday of each term we offer drop-in sessions for any parents with questions.
