Top Spot for Academy A-Level Performance

Wrenn PROUD to achieve top spot for Academic A level Performance (inc EPQ)

Staff and students of Wrenn sixth form are celebrating today! The 16-18 league tables have been updated and Wrenn are the top school in the Wellingborough district for academic and applied progress.

Head of sixth form, Miss Ellis, has commented ‘I am very proud of the recent performance tables released by the government. We pride ourselves on our approach to post-16 education by providing a bespoke and individualised curriculum that allows students to select subjects according to their strengths and enjoyment. Our breadth of curriculum choice, ensures that all our students are successful in gaining opportunities in their chosen careers.

Congratulations to those students and to the staff who worked hard to achieve such great results.’

Our sixth form students are all encouraged to complete an EPQ qualification. The EPQ provides an opportunity for students to extend their abilities beyond the A-level syllabus, stand out and prepare for university or their future career. It is a standalone qualification designed to extend and develop students’ skills in independent research and project management. The EPQ is becoming a key requirement for some top UK universities, such as Southampton University, who make alternative offers to student based on the completion of the EPQ (which is awarded UCAS points).

We have achieved these results after championing an holistic approach to education; providing our students with chances to balance academic success with personal development. Students at Wrenn expand their life skills and enjoy learning both inside and outside of the classroom; trips abroad offer experiences that enrich their lives and provide context to their learning. All students get involved in our extensive local charity work as well as contributing to our own community in school; from mentoring our younger students in their studies to taking on leadership roles and organising events.

Dr Who Writer visits Wrenn!

‘Life-changing’ were words which our students used to describe the author workshop which took place on Tuesday 13th November.  A few local primary schools joined some of our Year 7 pupils to welcome the talented William Gallagher who is the author of Doctor Who radio dramas.  William is also a scriptwriter, playwright and journalist!

Lego NXT Half Term Competition

Year 9 this half term have been working on a project to create a moving Robot with Lego NXT, that plays a tune and shows off some moves.

Each robot had to have a theme and some sort of character to carry around the classroom.

National Poetry Day

National Poetry Day

On Thursday 4th October we celebrated National Poetry Day by inviting the dynamic and energetic performance poet Dreadlock Alien back to Wrenn.  Every year group in school was given a vibrant poetry performance as well as helpful exam tips for our Key Stage 4 students. Both staff and students are delighted to see the return of Dreadlock Alien and his visits always create a buzz around the whole school.
