Key Stage 3

RWV at Wrenn provides students with a broad and balanced curriculum which aims to ensure all young people in our care leave us well prepared for a life in contemporary British society and positively contribute to social cohesion, build resilience and encourage deep thought on several big questions and contemporary issues. Without Religion and Worldviews students would not have the opportunity to foster ideas of respect and tolerance in an environment that promotes higher order thinking skills and discussion with others. Students’ experience and learning journey will allow them to be able to investigate, critique, debate as well as develop their own jusitifed opinions on a wide range of social, moral, and cultural issues.

Students learn about the key religious beliefs and practices of the six main world religions as well as Humanism and are then encouraged to evaluate the impact these beliefs have on a person’s life and on society.

RWV provides our students with a broad and informed view of the world and helps them to better understand current affairs and the different values that drive our societies. It promotes tolerance, empathy and inclusion.

Key Stage 4

Course summary	Students will take the Full Course GCSE. The course covers the topics outlined below.
What will students learn?	The course is made up of two components. Component 1: The study of religions: beliefs, teachings and practices of:- Christianity Judaism Component 2: Religious, philosophical, and ethical studies themes: Theme A: Relationships and families. Theme B: Religion and life. Theme E: Religion, crime, and punishment. Theme F: Religion, human rights, and social justice. With reference to selected religious and non-religious beliefs.
How will students be assessed?	At the end of the GCSE course students will sit two exam papers. Component 1: The study of religions Written exam: 1hr 45 mins 50% of GCSE. The question paper will consist of both short answer and extended response questions. Component 2: Thematic studies Written exam: 1hr 45 mins 50% of GCSE. Key Stage 5

Course summary	A-level Religious Studies helps students develop their interest in, and enthusiasm for, a rigorous study of Religion, philosophy and ethics and their relation to the wider world. This course encourages students to reflect on and develop their own values, opinions and attitudes in the light of their learning. Students will have an opportunity to study aspects of one or more religions, including textual, theological, historical, ethical, phenomenological and philosophical perspectives.
What will students learn?	Year 12 Religion and Ethics: What makes something right or wrong? How do people make moral decisions? What are your views on abortion, suicide, crime and punishment, human and animal rights? Philosophy of Religion: Philosophical theories on natural and moral evil, the influence of God, the existence of God and religious experience. Year 13 The second year builds on previous study by developing students’ knowledge. Topics include: Explanations for evil, suffering and miracles, the interaction between religion and science and the debate on the existence of a deity. Students are also invited to attend the Cambridge RE conference to enhance their learning. Religious Studies is excellent preparation for any career that involves presenting clear, logical arguments (for example Law), understanding people ( the caring professions) or dealing with complex issues and problem solving (most professional careers).
How will students be assessed?	At the end of the second year each unit will be assessed via a 3-hour examination and each paper is worth 50% of the final mark. Candidates study a selection of units from a choice of available. www.aqa.org.uk/as-and-a-level/religious-studies
