Drama
Key Stage 3
The topics covered in Drama will prepare students for future Drama in GCSE. The students will also build on confidence, interview and social skills. The skills covered within Drama are devising skills, script work skills and analysing live theatre and Scripts. There will be emphasis on Drama vocabulary and using vocal and physical skills to portray characters.
Students will be involved in weekly drama lessons in year 7,8&9.

The subject content for GCSE Drama is divided into three components:
In the practical components students may specialise in performing, lighting or costume design. |
What will students learn? |
Component 1 – Understanding Drama: Students will study the play ‘Blood Brothers’. They will look at themes, characters, context and plot along with the historical and political context of the play. Students will study the play practically and then write as an actor, director and designer. Component 2 – Devising Drama: Students will create and perform a devised drama piece. They will learn how to create and develop ideas to communicate meaning in a devised theatrical performance and learn how to contribute to devised drama in a live theatre context for an audience. They will contribute as either a performer or designer. Component 3 – Text in practice: Students will learn how to contribute to text-based drama in a live theatre context for an audience. They will develop their ability to interpret texts, create and communicate meaning and realise artistic intention in text-based drama. |
How will students be assessed? |
Component 1 – Understanding Drama: Written Assessment, externally marked: 1 hour and 45 minutes written exam worth 40% of the GCSE (80 marks). Component 2 – Devising Drama: Internally assessed, externally moderated: Complete two assessment tasks and is worth 40% of the GCSE (60 marks). Component 3 – Text in practice: Practical Assessment, externally marked: Complete two assessment tasks and is worth 20% of the GCSE (40 marks). |

Course summary |
BTEC level 3 National Diploma in Performing Arts is a qualification which will encourage you to develop your creative and intellectual capacity, alongside transferable skills such as team work, communication and problem solving. This course allows you to look at historical and current practices in the performing arts industry, inspiring a lifelong passion and appreciation for the arts. You can perform in a style of your choice for the practical assessments, and must complete a written assessment as part of the mandatory unit. |
What will students learn? |
Mandatory units: Unit 1- Investigating Practitioners’ Work Unit 2- Developing Skills for Live Performance Unit 3- Group performance workshop Optional units: You will then pick 1 optional unit of your choice suited to your ability/talent, whether it is more dance, drama or music related. |

The assessment is; 2 of the units are assessed externally. 2 units are assessed internally. More project-based assessment tailored to students and their learning styles |
